The descent of THOMAS PEROWNE
By correlation of places and dates it might be supposed that GEORGE HENRY PEROWNE (1814-1872) belongs somewhere in the extensive Pockthorpe hierarchy - (see Descent of James Perowne) - but this we have been unable to establish. We know that he was baptized on 3rd July, 1814, in St Saviour's Church at Norwich, being entered as “son of Maria Perowne, a widow". In the same Parish Register we find, in the year 1811, record of the baptism of Sarah Ann Perown, “daughter of Thomas and Maria (Bacon)”, from which it can be conjectured that this THOMAS PEROWN was the father also of GEORGE HENRY, but of this there is no proof. (NB This THOMAS is not to be confused with THOMAS PEROWN(E) (1771-1854)), who is comprehensively documented)
The marriage of THOMAS PEROWN and Maria Bacon, “both of this Parish”, is to be found in the same Register, for the year 1808; of his parentage there is there no indication. No notice of his death has yet come to light; if he was the father of GEORGE HENRY, this must have occured some time , between Noveniber, 1813, and July, 1814. As to the date of his birth there is nothing upon which to form an estimate. It has, however, been observed that the family of JAMES PEROWN (Peroone) - (see Descent of DAVID PIERON) - is well represented in the Parish Registers of St Saviour's; lie himself was there baptized, as well as his four children, of which the youngest, JAMES (+ 1746), married Ann White (var.Wite) in 1784. Here could, conceivably, be the parents of THOMAS, but of the issue, if any, from that union we have no evidence, and dare not hazard even a tentative attachment.
